The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day Commemorated under the Theme “On the Side of Humanity”!

Today, Thursday, May 8, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day was celebrated in the presence of Sheikh Ul Hadith Shahabuddin Delawar, the Acting General President of ARCS, Hafiz Azizur Rahman, the Vice-president, Mawlawi Rohullah Abdul Salaam, the Acting Secretary General, Director-General of Administrative Office, the Acting General Director of the National Environmental Protection Agency, religious scholars, officials from the ICRC, the IFRC, and other national societies in Afghanistan; as well as  directors and staff members.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of a supportive message from the Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, read by Sheikh Ul Hadith Noorul Haq Anwar, Director-General of the Administrative Office.

The message lauded the Afghan Red Crescent Society as an effective organization in delivering humanitarian services and fostering compassion for the needy and headless individuals.

It further appealed to both national and international humanitarian organizations to expand their support for returnees and vulnerable individuals repatriating from neighboring countries by facilitating employment opportunities for them.

Following him, Sheikh Ul Hadith Shahabuddin Delawar, the Acting General President of ARCS, extended a warm welcome to the participants. He assured the unwavering commitment of ARCS to deliver efficient and impactful services to vulnerable people, widows, orphans, and returnees, emphasizing that these humanitarian services are delivered throughout the nation without any discrimination, favoritism, or prejudice.
He also provided detailed and comprehensive information about the humanitarian services being offered in various sectors by ARCS. Furthermore, he urged national and international humanitarian organizations, national entrepreneurs, and affluent individuals to expand their support for this humanitarian organization.

Thereafter, Mawlawi Matiul Haq Khalis, Acting General Director of the National Environmental Protection Agency, elaborated on the significance of observing the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, the imperative for establishing national societies, and  their operations.

He also urged international humanitarian organizations to recalibrate their policies and keep humanitarian aid separate from political agendas.
Officials from the ICRC and the IFRC in Afghanistan reiterated their commitment to collaborative engagement and emphasized the importance of joint efforts to ensure the prompt and effective delivery of humanitarian services through ARCS.

During the gathering, the Vice-president of ARCS emphasized the shared responsibility of national societies worldwide to respond promptly to human suffering arising from both natural and man-made disasters.

He also called for increased coordination and cooperation among movement members and advocated for strengthening national societies in less developed countries to enhance humanitarian services.

The dignified gathering concluded with a closing prayer delivered by Sheikh Ul Hadith Mawlana Mir Mohammad Farooq Al-Hashimi.
