The Vice-president of ARCS Participates and Addresses a Conference on Community Engagement for Polio Eradication!
16th of April, a conference entitled(Community Engagement for Polio Eradication) was convened in Qatar, spearheaded by Bill Gates Foundation. The conference was participated by Hafiz Azizur Rahman, the Vice-president of ARCS, and representatives from IFRC, UNFPA, WHO, UNICEF, EMERGENCY, and Lapis.
In his remarks, the Vice-president of ARCS shared detailed information about the concept of community, its identification, and the cultural values that play a fundamental role in shaping a healthy society. Further, he underscored the pivotal role volunteers play between communities and health initiatives. He added if volunteers receive necessary training about the prevention of polio and public health, community could be meaningfully and effectively engaged in this regard.
Moreover, Mr. Azizur Rahman emphasized the need for public awareness campaigns and capacity-building workshops on polio for volunteers regarding community engagement and polio eradication. He highlighted ARCS initiatives across the country, including the formation of maternal committees, health councils, and the recruitment of influential community figures and volunteers as part of community engagement efforts. He added that the ARCS currently have a network of 26,500 active volunteers nationwide, playing an instrumental role in social mobilization and expanding public health awareness.
