The Acting General President Held Meeting with the Officials of IFRC to Provide Emergency Humanitarian Assistance to Returning Refugees!

Today, Monday, the 14th of April, Sheikh Ul Hadith Shahabuddin Delawar, the Acting General President of ARCS, convened a meeting in the headquarter of this national humanitarian organization with Mr. Ahmad Suleiman, the Acting Head of IFRC for Afghanistan, Helen Brunt, Thematic Lead for Migration and Displacement for Asia Pacific Regional Office of IFRC, and Homa Nader, Head of Strategic Coordination and Humanitarian Diplomacy of IFCR. The meeting focused on assessing the current situation of returning refugees and providing emergency humanitarian assistance to them.
During the meeting, the Acting General President provided a comprehensive briefing on his recent visit to Torkham, where he assessed the conditions of returnees and outlined ARCS’s ongoing services, including the provision of healthcare services, provision of temporary shelter, distribution of hot meals and clean potable water, deployment of volunteers for their service, and other humanitarian efforts.
Further, Mr. Delawar appealed to the IFRC for unwavering support with ARCS to enhancing and expanding humanitarian assistance and services for returning refugees. He requested for coordination in providing better medical services, cash assistance for nutritious food and medication for pregnant women, short-term shelter for returnees upon arrival in their home provinces, provision of food supplies for one month, and the establishment of both fixed and mobile health clinics in the developing refugee settlements. He assured the IFRC of full transparency in the delivery of all services.
In response, the head of IFRC and accompanying delegates appreciated the recent visit of the Acting General President and the insights shared regarding the assessment of the conditions of the refugees. They commended the services of ARCS and pledged an immediate provision of 100,000 Swiss francs to support medical services, staff, the expansion of temporary shelters, and volunteers. They also affirmed their commitment to provide a financial contribution up-to 150,000 Swiss francs in the forthcoming week.
