Job Description:
Operate, maintain and repair the hospital’s Medical Gas Pipeline System (oxygen, medical air, vacuum/suction, nitrous oxide), ensure continuous safe delivery of medical gases to clinical areas (OT, ICU, Cath Lab, wards), manage manifolds and bulk supply interfaces, rapidly respond to failures, and maintain records and compliance with safety and clinical requirements.
Key responsibilities:
1.    Monitor MGPS supply and alarms continuously: check pipeline pressures, alarm panels, manifold status and cylinder-bank levels; record shift checks and trend abnormalities.
2.    Respond 24/7 to MGPS alarms, low-pressure events, leaks or supply interruptions: isolate faults safely, restore supply or arrange approved temporary sources and escalate unresolved incidents.
3.    Inspect, service and repair distribution components: isolation/zone valves, pressure-reducing stations, outlet terminals, alarm panels, regulators and pipeline fittings; perform leak detection and pressure tests.
4.    Perform preventive maintenance and functional testing: filter/regulator changes, calibration of gauges, manifold/changeover testing, pipeline purging and periodic outlet verification; document results and non-conformances.
5.    Commission and re-commission pipeline sections/outlets: run acceptance tests, issue pre-use certificates and maintain commissioning records.
6.    Maintain complete logs and traceability: leak reports, manifold switching records, test certificates, maintenance history and spare-parts inventory (serial/batch tracking) in English for audits.
7.    Supervise and train clinical first-responders on basic MGPS alarms, emergency cylinder procedures and safe cylinder handling; coordinate with OT/ICU/IPC for contingency plans.
8.    Coordinate deliveries and cylinder-bank management with suppliers: safe exchange, labelling, segregation, secure storage and verification of consignments.
9.    Implement safe-work controls for MGPS interventions: lockout/tagout, confined-space procedures, risk assessments and PPE enforcement; escalate electrical/instrument faults to vendors or electrical teams.
10.    Support procurement and technical specification preparation for MGPS spares, regulators, alarm panels and manifolds; maintain readiness of emergency regulators/trolleys and recommended buffer stock levels.
Job Requirements:
 
Mandatory:
·        Diploma or Bachelor's in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical Engineering, HVAC/Instrumentation or equivalent vocational qualification plus demonstrable MGPS-specific training/experience.
·        Formal course/certificate in medical gas pipeline systems, gas safety or vendor-accredited MGPS training strongly preferred.
Preferred:
•    Certified training in medical gas systems commissioning, pipeline testing and oxygen plant operation.
Minimum experience
·        Minimum 3 years practical experience working on medical gas pipeline systems, bulk-gas installations or in hospital engineering/biomedical roles with documented MGPS exposure.
·        Experience supporting OT/ICU critical areas and emergency-response for gas-supply incidents strongly preferred.
