The Acting General President Holds Coordination Meeting with the Acting Head of IFRC in Afghanistan to Address the Challenges and Needs of Returning Refugees!

Today, Saturday, the 19th of April, Sheikh Ul Hadith Shahabuddin Delawar, the Acting General President of ARCS, convened a coordination meeting in the headquarters of this national humanitarian organization with Mr. Ahmad Suleiman, the Acting Head of IFRC in Afghanistan, Helen Brunt, IFRC Thematic Lead for Migration and Displacement in Asia Pacific Regional Office, and Homa Nader, IFRC Head of Strategic Coordination and Humanitarian Diplomacy. The meeting centered on the recent trip of the delegation to Torkham and the assessment of conditions, challenges, and critical needs of returning refugees.
During the meeting, the Acting General President thanked IFRC for their efforts and humanitarian assistance and underscored the importance of their trip to Torkham Omari camp for assessing the conditions of returning refugees.
Further, Mr. Delawar characterized the sudden and large-scale return of refugees to the country as a humanitarian catastrophe and asked for increased assistance and cooperation from IFRC.
In response, the Acting Head of IFRC and accompanying delegation commended the various services of ARCS provided to the repatriated refugees during their visit to Torkham. They also pledged to deploy two mobile health teams each in Torkham and Spin Boldak and to provide financial assistance of 150 USD to each of 200 pregnant women returning through these routes, to provide them with postnatal nutritional and medical needs.
