Acting General President of Afghan Red Crescent, Mr. Mawlavi Matiul Haq Khalis, held a meeting with the Ambassador of Spanish Embassy to Afghanistan, Ricardo Losa, in Doha, the capital of Qatar. In the meeting, Mr. Mawlavi Matiul Haq Khalis spoke about the economic problems in Afghanistan, the natural disasters and the services available in ARCS Aid Centers, along with his gratitude for Spain's past assistance. He said, "There are homeless families in the relief centers of ARCS, where all facilities of life is provided,and besides their children's education, their wives are facilitated for vocational training." He said, "Currently, the process of providing cash assistance to 24,000 widows is going on in whole country, where 80% of its implementation is done by women". During meeting,he briefed regarding the damages and needs of the earthquake-affected in Herat and said, "8,000 houses have been damaged by the earthquake, and the construction of houses is an immense need of the residents before the arrival of winter." In the meeting,Spanish Ambassador to Afghanistan Ricardo Losa said, "The Spanish Red Cross has been a partner to ARCS for a long time; we know that due to climate changes and poverty there are many problems in Afghanistan, and we do not want to link these problems with politics." But we want to continue our assistance to the people of Afghanistan. He said "12% of the aid announced by the United Nations to Herat earthquake victims was provided by Spain". He said, "We appreciate the activities of ARCS; I will try to encourage the Spanish Red Cross and the government to deliver the aid of Spanish people to Afghan people via Afghan Red Crescent".
